Meet the Lawncrest Ambassadors!

Updated: Mar 24, 2021

The Lawncrest Neighborhood Ambassadors are a network of neighbors who strengthen and steward our local recreation center and library, advocating for stable and equitable services for Lawncrest community members of all ages and cultures.

The Neighborhood Ambassadors will be a point of contact between the community and the City's Rebuild program. As the project progresses, we will gather information from the community about the use of the recreation center and library, share information about Rebuild, and meet with developers and design professionals throughout the process.

Her aspiration in life is to travel the world and help people as much as she can. Al Alven - Raised in Olney and a resident of Lawncrest since 2005, Al Alven has called “the 19120” his home since birth (well, since he could talk, anyway). He is a 2001 graduate of La Salle University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in journalism. Over the past two decades, Al has seen his freelance work published in numerous local and national publications, and has co-authored one book. Karen Rodríguez - ¡Hola! Karen Rodriguez is a proud parent of two beautiful children who are the reason for her becoming a Neighborhood Ambassador. She has lived in and out of Lawncrest since 1997. She received her degree in Psychology in 2005. She moved to Lawncrest in 2013 and lives with her NE native husband, their daughter (4 years old) and Lindsey's stepdaughter (23 years old). After being laid off in March 2020, Mrs. Schuler began focusing on meaningful ways to make a positive impact in her community. Lindsey began attending Lawncrest Community Association meetings and volunteers at a weekly food box donation site. Seeing the dire need for food firsthand, she focused on helping fight food insecurity. Lindsey was the force behind securing a Mama-Tee Community Fridge for her Lawncrest neighborhood which has provided access to healthy food for all since October 2020. She is currently working to create a food-sharing program with the Lawncrest Community Garden where she is a member. Mrs. Schuler understands the value and impact the Lawncrest Rebuild will have on this community. She is proud to be the newest member of the Lawncrest Neighborhood Ambassadors and is excited to work together to bring growth to this project.
